Ceramic Materials: Antiviral and Antibacterial Innovations

Changing habits within our homes, work environments and living areas due to the new pandemic coronavirus, led to the search for strategies to minimize contamination by the virus.

In this context, TNS, together with its partners, has been contributing to provide technologic solutions that bring more security and convenience to the day-to-day.

Thinking about this new reality, TNS has worked extensively to develop solutions that assign properties antimicrobial lasting on the most varied types of surfaces, such as: textiles, polymers, paints and, more recently, on ceramic materials.

From tableware or sanitary ware to kitchen utensils, floors and tiles, antimicrobial ceramics provide enhanced surfaces that offer continuous and long lasting antiviral and antibacterial protection.

The TNS technology is validated following the ISO 21702 standard, to assess antiviral efficacy, and uses ASTM E3031, to determine antibacterial efficacy.

Our results are scientifically proven, with a 99.9% reduction in bacteria as Staphylococcus Aureus e E. Coli, as well as the 99.9% reduction in viruses of the same family and group of SARS-CoV-2.

It would be difficult to imagine our society without the use of ceramic materials and, for this reason, we feel compelled to provide solutions with lasting properties.

We believe that such a material present in our daily lives can also combat the uncontrolled growth of bacteria and viruses, thus avoiding the risk of disease transmission and cross contamination.

Ceramic is a non-metallic inorganic solid material, which in turn is compatible with the antimicrobial assets developed by TNS. These assets are composed of nanoparticles which, when incorporated into the ceramic enamel, offer continuous protection to the product, actively controlling the growth of viruses and bacteria throughout the life of the ceramic.

TNS works in collaboration with its partners to ensure that this technological solution is easily incorporated into the base materials. Our additives are compatible with the most varied types of manufacturing processes and existing mixtures, without changing the characteristic properties of the final products.

In addition, the concentrations of our additives have proven effectiveness from reduced application scales, and can be added to processes in the form of powder or liquid.

Why use TNS technology?

The ceramic industry in Brazil is in a growing evolution: with strategic investments in research and innovation and monitoring of the main international technological trends, this market has constantly launched new products, bringing innovative solutions to its customers, always linked to the values of design and high standards. quality standards.

The search for antimicrobial surfaces has been highly valued by consumers, mainly due to the pandemic of the new Coronavirus. Today, more than ever, efforts are being made to prevent cross-transmission, that is, transmission through contact with a contaminated surface.

TNS additives combat this problem by transforming a surface that could be a vehicle of transmission, to a surface capable of eliminating viruses and bacteria
